hi newbie here,
Alot of our labels require the ean13 barcode, we use labelview 7 software and toshiba tec sx4 printers on a serial port, we are connecting our codes via an ole database connection to an excel sreadsheet

Now the problem only exists with the ean-13 barcode, all other barcodes print with this connection, if we fix the barcode with no connection and apply manually the barcode prints.

The display on screen when connecting a barcode shows xxxxxxxx under the barcode but with the ean-13 code we get 0000000

have checked the printer driver and it has ean-13 installed

Any help would be appreciated

Hello!

To this problem, I think you should choose some options that you didn't chosed. To compare with other barcode and setup corresponding options carefully.

Greetings,
David

What other length barcodes are you printing OK? Just wonder if it is falling over with the 13 digits in an EAN. Excel will happily display 8 digits, but 13 will result in it truncating the text so it will be 5.015467E etc etc. Try formatting the column as text, that might help. If the barcode prints OK with static text, it must be something to do with what the odbc driver is providing the prog with.

other barcodes that print fine when linked to this same excel table are ITF14 EAN-128, EAN-128(MULTITASKING), i have spoken to the relevant people who update the excel and they have checked the the column and it is set up as text, we are now using an OLE connection and still getting the same problem????
Will now make sure i have all the correct /latest drivers from teklynx

just like to inform you that we have solved this problem, basically we had to create a new hidden field with a ole data link to the barcode number, we then named the field "BARCODE 1"
We then made a linked expression with the formula "left(barcode 1,12)", everything was then correct and labels printed correctly

Glad you got it fixed - does labelview want to calculate the checkdigit for you then? If you are using 12 leftmost characters of the field I presume you are ditching a checkdigit character?

yes labelview calculates the check digit, i had a feeling that if we could remove the check digit from the excel file it may work but the powers that be would not allow it , so this was the only way
