Hello, my company is in the process of switching to Avaya IP Office system. We will have 2 remote users that connect through VPN phones and are trying to figure out how to set each of them up with correct e911 information since they both live in different states than the main office. Is this something that can be done on the IP Office end (through shortcodes, the ARS table?) or through our telecom provider? Or will we have to purchase a separate piece of software to achieve this? Thanks!

But all that is required is an association nationwide that DDI 123456 belongs to you, saying if this number calls 911 this is where he lives, is it so seperted and regulated in US that 911 is a profit based service as oppose to a government based service that operates at cost ?

We should likely move this to a separate thread. We are now WAY off topic.
I agree with you to some extent, lets discuss on an appropriate thread in respect to the Mods.

The way I have done it:

1. Create short code, when user dials 911 it goes out with specific CID.
2. Call you trunk provider and have them change E911 info for that CID to address you want.

It's much easier with SIP trunks. With les.net you can do it yourself.
Much more difficult with PRI and PSTN providers

Yes, if the PSAPs are being serviced by the SAME SELECTIVE ROUTERS then this is fine. If not, then the foreign number will go in as an ANI fail, be routed to the default PSAP who can only ANSWER but not transfer your call. If they do transfer, it will be on a 10 digit admin line with NO ORIGINAL CALLER ID so the PSAP will be getting in a blind call.

This is why you relly need to be careful with 912 programming folks.

People can die!

Thanks for all your replies everyone. I think we're going to go with what Greybeard suggested. I just can't believe that there isn't a built-in feature in the Avaya system for this, since I'd imagine this comes up pretty often. 911 isn't something to skip over.

Appreciate your frustration, but what 'feature' could be applied here? There is a physical limitation in the Public Switched telephone Network and the way 911 is designed to operate. There is nothing ANY vendor can do, except act as a 3rd part LD 911 provider and take the call into their network and reposition it. That is what 911 ETC does, as does any other provider offering 'hosted' 911. But they too come with baggage as explained. Sorry, but there is no clean way to do this today, and that is unfortunate. At least now you know.
