I am receiving the following error periodically when attempting to backup our PDC. "E8522 Failed to receive data from the client agent. (EC=10054)". This is one of 3 servers that get backed up each night. The other two servers are backed up with no problem.

I've checked the agent on that server, and it seems to be running fine. The service on the server is running also.

We are running ARCServe 2000 on NT 4.0 sp6a.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

This is indicating a timeout in communication between the server and the agent. There are a number of possible causes.

I have seen this error when there was a problem with the configuration of the NIC and the attached switch. The switch was running full duplex, and the server was at half, because it had been left at "auto". This was causing lots of collisions. Don't use Auto. Very Bad. Set them both to the best speed they share, and let me know if that helps.

Another thing to look at is the load on the server/network at the time of the failures.
