Backup system running ARCServe 7.0 pops up error message "Tape not in drive" ... "E6959 Unknown HACB error. Possibly no error occurred."

... "E6092 Fatal - intervention needed."

Also unable to remove the tape from ADIC tape drive.

I'm trying to decide whether this is a hardware and/or software error? What it means? How to respond?

Has anyone else ever received these error messages? I'm thinking it is hardware related because we can't remove tape from drive, but am unable to locate any information on what the msg. means or needs me to do. I've deactivated AS; stopped and restarted adic drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the device is ARCserve supported? hmmmm, the only other thing I can think of (besides faulty drive) is to make sure the NT drivers for the device isn't loaded. In windows 2000 the tape device and medium changer (if its a library) requires to be disabled, if not a library then just the tape device needs to be disabled. If in NT 4 then just don't load the NT drivers for the device. IF your drive still doesn't work, try stopping all arcserve services, then load the NT drivers for the device, and then try using NT backup (native backup program with windows) top eject the tape and work with the device, this will show you if the device is faulty or not.

If it works with NT backup, then there maybe be an issue with support of the device on ARCserves side, if it doesn't work, then chances are you drive may never drive again :)
