E3705: Unable to format media

Didnt see this one coming.

We have two backup jobs that both start at 7pm on a 2-drive ADIC100.

The first of the two jobs failed with this error:

E3705 Unable to Format media (MEDIA=1/02/07 7:00 PM, EC=BAD DEVICE NUMBER)

The second job ran fine.

Looking for suggestions on things to check here.

Also, is there a way to patch to 11.5 SP2 without downloading 5 cd's of ISOs?

you only need one, the English language is embedded in all files. Download the smallest one.

After installing SP2 install the Tape Engine update:
QO82963 ZIP 10.3 MB 10/06/06 NT -DEVICE SUPPORT UDPATE 7 A

If this is SCSI (as apposed to Fibre) disable the library and drive/s from within the OS Device Manager.
