From backup server are you able to connect to the machine trying to backup using net command eg Net \\server1.....

Hello mohamdr,

yes, I can map, create, delete, etc.

How are you creating the jobs? Are you creating this as a Network backup or an Agent backup? If you are creating the jobs as an Agent backup, try drilling down the Network tree and make sure you can see your servers. If you can, choose the same server you were trying to back up and try to backup just one file from it. That will help narrow down if its a network or software problem.

Hi Russell5

It is definitely a network issue. I can backup the local machine fine.

I did get it to work once, but I accidentally had it set to backup to a tape rather than a media group. After I changed it to backup to the group is when I started having this problem.

Is a Domain user being entered for the security information?

Hi davidmichel,

A Novell admin is being entered for the security information. I also tried the local administrator. Yesterday I got it to backup to the network by uninstalling and reinstalling the software. It ran once and now I am back to this error!

Well lets start at the begining.
What OS and version of ARCserve?
Does this happen to just one specific target?
What OS is the target system?

Backup Server: Windows 2003 Server
Software: Arcserve 2000
Server to be Backed up: Novell
This happens when trying to backup either of our two Novell Servers.

The log does not say anything about connecting to client agent. Are you using the NetWare Client Agent?

Actually this might be a compatibility problem ARCserve 2000 and Windows 2003. CA offically says AS 2000 does not support Win 2003. So it could be that ARCserve 2000 is not able to pass the permissions information across platform correctly due to the differences in Win 2003.

I am not using a client agent. Do I need to? It worked the one time without it, so I would imagine it is not necessary. Why is a client agent used?

The strange thing is that it will work once and only once per install?!

In order to backup a NetWare server correctly with ARCserve 2000 you need to use the NetWare client agent.

It was the NDS option that I was missing.

Thank you davidmichel, Russell5 and mohamdr!!!
