Using ArcServe 6.6 for Netware(version 5), I get the following error message:

E3125 failed to read NLS:License ID=SN:xxxxxxxxx.NLS:publisher=Novell+NLS:product=Netware 5 Conn SCL+NLS:Version=5.10.O=HQ's data set, fffdfe80

I did not receive this error message until after we upgraded the server to Netware version 5 (previously running version 4).

I also get the message "Directory services database is not protected"

I have checked the error help in ArcServe; it states that this error will occur if user running the backup job is not an ADMIN or equivalent. I've even created a new user who is ADMIN or equivalent and tried to run my backup, but I still get this error.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a similar setup and have never seen this error message, however I have had problems with NLS. Depending on what patch level I had on the server I would get messages on the console screen about the license not being valid. Do you have the license objects showing in the NDS tree? Check out the support site for NLS errors the problem may be with NW 5.0 not ARCserve.

Also make sure that you have applied NetWare support pack nw51sp2a (or nw50sp6a if using NW5.0). NetWare & Arcserve will play well together only at the right patch level.

Good Luck,

Mark ;-)

Use SETUPNLS on the server console. Read carefully what's on the screen (it's easy, though). Then astop6 and astart6.
Worked fine for me on three servers!

hello,

I has found this for SETUPNLS

TITLE: "Invalid license file"
PRODUCT: NetWare
DATE: 11DEC2000
DOCUMENT ID: 10059099 (Solution: NOVL35112)
DISTRIBUTION: Public

CORRECTIVE

FACT: Novell NetWare 4.11
Novell Netware 5.x
SYMPTOM: Arcserve won't load.
Get error: "Invalid license file".
SYS$LOG.ERR displays a lot of errors about an old nls
schema being detected.
Running SETUPNLS returns error: "unable to convert old
NLS data to new data format".
CHANGE: Applied Support Pack 9
FIX: Load DSREPAIR -A
Go into Advanced Options / Global Schema Operations.
Run the following two repairs:
Post NetWare 5 Schema Update and Optional Schema
Enhancements.
Run SETUPNLS. When it says "Old NLS schema extensions
detected. Convert old NLS objects?", tell it NOT to
convert the objects.
When asked if you want to remove the old schema
extensions, tell it YES.
This should complete successfully now. The application
giving the "invalid license file" should now be able to
load.
