Hi, all!
People say, E/// recalls PU4DC. What for? Or it is only for some markets (Russian, for example)?

Thanks

there was a problem at a time (I think a year of 2 ago) concerning the capacitors on the PU4DC. the cap would leak after a certain amount of time and there was risk of fire... reworked PU4DC have /A in their revision. PU5DC and RG5DC don't expose the problem. please note that the problem was only seen with newer PU4DC boards (don't remember the production date period). please check with your service provider (if you have any) if your boards needs to be replaced or not...

What You See Is What You Get
Never underestimate tha powah of tha google!

Do a search of this forum. There was one mail that gave the exact dates. They were replaced free of charge up to December 2004.
Cheers

Thanks for your answers!

Some more info, I get just now from E/// partner:

Service Advice

We have been experiencing problems with the PU4DC boards. The problem is related to a capacitor, which begins leaking after being in operation for a period of time. When this happens, in most cases only the PU4DC board fails but in some cases adjacent circuit boards have been affected or the entire magazine may be damaged.

As we regard this as a premature wear out of the component on the PU4DC board, Ericsson Enterprise have decided to extend the offer of the swap replacement program so that all affected units in the field can be replaced.

The replacement program is prolonged and ends 2005-12-31.

Identification of Affected Boards
Our analysis of the scope of the problem, working together with the vendor of the component, shows that defective components are installed on boards produced during the period 1994 through 1996. However, we cannot rule out the possibility that defective components are also installed on some boards outside the period. We therefore decided to recommend replacement of all PU4DC power supplies not yet changed or verified to be ok. Boards marked R-state with /A or /B are OK and should not be replaced (i.e. R3B needs to be replaced, R4A/A is OK)

There will be three replacement units: PU5DC, RG5DC and factory reconditioned PU4DC, as explained in the documents below.

Attached to this Service Advice is document:
- Replacement of PU4DC under Operation - 1553 - ROA 219 5038, Rev B

The replacement program will be handled with buffer batches, the buffer batches may contain any of the three variants of units PU4DC, PU5DC or RG5DC.

It is important to be aware that it is critical to the replacement program that the complete batch is sent back to Ericsson Enterprise without delay.

The replacement program units shipped will be tracked to ensure that Enterprise Service Logistics receive a corresponding number of old units in return. Any outstanding units when the program concludes 31 December 2005 will be charged.

Each batch has to be returned in equal number of units to Ericsson Sweden within 56 calendar days before the next batch can be dispatched from Ericsson. If a Service Partner (SP) fails to do this, Ericsson will invoice the ordinary price for such a batch.

Swap details
The old PU4DC (ROF 1375320/1) will be replaced with one of the three alternatives, a repaired/updated PU4DC (ROF 1375320/1) or PU5DC (ROF 1375320/1) or RG5DC (ROF 1375350/2). The swap alternatives are handled by the logistics at Ericsson depending on what is available in the buffer stock at Ericsson Enterprise Sweden and at the time of each individual delivery.

Packing
Before being dispatched to Ericsson all units that are subject for replacement must be properly protected against Electro-static Discharge (ESD). Enclosing them in a non-conducting plastic bag does this. Units must also be individually packed in foam or other material to protect them against damage in transit.

A simple way is to use the same packing material, which is used in the buffer batch that SP will be receiving in advance.

Shipping Specification
A Shipping Specification containing the following information must accompany each shipment of boards to the factory:

•Service Partner name
•Number of boards in shipment •Product number including Index and Production Week for each board.

The technical part of the replacement process of the PU4DC is described in the work instructions 1553-ROA 2195038 Uen. This process depends on certain HW (Adapter ROA 2195038/1) to be able to do the change without power stop. The HW will be supplied with the first batch including two pieces of the adapter ROA 2195038/1 free of charge.

A large enough buffer store of replacement units is now in place at the factory and the program should be initiated as quickly as possible. As of today no specific markets are prioritized and the plan to upgrade should be based on the knowledge of your customers installed base. Critical customers with high demands on availability should be prioritized. Ericsson Enterprise recommend you to pay special attention to equipment delivered during the period of 1994 - 1996 as this period counts for the vast majority of hazardous boards.

The recommendations given in this Service Advice are also applicable to other systems based upon the MD110 HW platform.

If a customer inquires as to the reason for the replacement, please feel free to explain to them nature of the problem as described above.
