I have a user on my Exchange 2000 server who has a long last name. How do I go about setting up an alias that is easier to remember. Basically his normal account will stick to the company naming policy, but he will have an alias setup so if he is out on the road he can tell people his email address is simple@work.com and it will automatically be forwarded to his normal e-mail account. Is this easy to setup?

Open the user in AD Users and Computers
Goto E-mail Address Tab
New - SMTP
john@doe.com

This address doesn't have to be primary. Now people can e-mail him at either address. New mail goes out on the old address which doesn't matter cause people can hit reply to it. Dan

Along these lines, I have recently converted a group of sendmail users to our Exchange 2000 system. I imported them into AD, but would love to be able to duplicate their sendmail aliases by use of a recipient policy. The current policy already generates username@domain.edu. I would like to generate j-user@domain.edu (first initial, hyphen, full last name), since that is the format of their UNIX alias, which most use as their primary address. I love to type and all, but I'd really rather do this through a policy. Any ideas?

Try this.

%1g-%s@domain.com

Don't do this on the default policy. Just make a new one that does Users and Contacts. Dan

Dan,

That did the trick! What a relief - thank you so much. That oughta get "tip of the week" or something!
