Has anyone found a magical way to create a current time field/column? I would like to create a in/out board but without the ability to compare to current time/date there would be no automation to it.
You may be able to create a new column and use the date and time selection for the type. then, in the lower part of creating the column, select date and time and then calculated value. in the calculated value, enter =[Today]
That should give you the current date/time. I haven't tested it over time, but I believe it will remain static once the item is created.
Thanks for responding Carl. Static is no problem. It's dynamic current time that is the problem. To automate the in/out settings I must compare current time (now) to the return time the user entered. I am coming to Sharepoint from Lotus Notes. This process is easy with notes but sharepoint is missing something.
Sorry - I misunderstood requirements. I have never done something like this myself, but there are ways to "trick" SharePoint into doing what you need (I think). Read through the following post taking note of the comments as well -
