Dear experts,

I'm using Crystal XI with command objects and today I tried changing one of my static parameters to a dynamic one with no success. Using command objects i can create only static parameters within the command window. I can create dynamic ones from the field explorer but then the command window would not let me use them in my query. I also tried using only startdate and enddate parameters from the command window and later adding dynamic parameters for use with record selection. This worked but it first prompts for the dates only, then it clears the user input, and prompts for the dates again along with the dynamic params.
Has anyone experienced this before?

Many Thanks,

Mr. K

If you are using release 1, have you downloaded the first service pack? This addressed some issues with command parameters.

Why can't you create the parameter within the command?

Thanks for your reply LB, I'm using Crystal XI R1 with SP2. I use two command objects in my report: one for the report fields and another for the list of values to be used in a dynamic parameter. I've got two date parameters and one number parameter in the first command object. I have created these within the first command window but when i later try to change the number parameter to a dynamic one from the field explorer, i end up having to enter parameter values twice. Crystal first prompts for the number parameter asking for a single discrete value, then it disregards the value entered and prompts with the dynamic parameter where you can select from the list of values. I also have to enter the dates twice since everything entered the first time gets cleared.
If you have any reports with commands and command params you can try changing any of these params to dynamic to see if it works.

Many thanks for you time,

Mr. K

Yes, I tested this, and the prompts do appear twice. I don't know of a fix for this. If the values don't change often, you might set up the command parameter as static, and use the dropdown to populate your LOV with the second command, and periodically clear and repopulate the list (append all values)--this would update the list. Not that user friendly, but it does manage to do the same thing as using a dynamic list. The other problem with the dynamic parameter that I've found is the delay entailed in populating the list (running the LOV command).

Thanks for you help LB, i just wanted to confirm that this is a default behaviour in crystal and not just me. I am now following your suggestion of periodically populating lov for static params.
