Hi,
I would like to incorporate a dynamic parameter field into my report. What I would like to do is instead of the user typing in the required value, I would like to have a drop-down of all available values. Now, when I click on Default values, I notice you can browse a table and use those values as defaults. However, when new values are added to the table they are not included in the drop-down since they weren't in the table at the time I added them to the default list. So my question is is there a way to set a parameter field that will query a table and return a list for the user to pick from?

Thank You

It sounds like you are doing everything correct.

The only thing I would suggest, is whenever you are aware of new data that you go into your report and under "Database" in your toolbar, click "Verify Database".

This will insure that your database is up to date.

Hope this helps.

I noticed the same thing. The "new" values are still on the left side of the VALUE box. I am using a date_day field for my default values. And give the user the choice of dates dependent on the database field. My users are not viewing the report from Crystal Reports but from the web, so they cannot "verify database". This needs to be totally dynamic. Is the default values from the parameter selection NOT dynamic, even if you select the field you want them to pull from? I am confused?

Crystal pick lists are not dynamic. If you assign a list to a report, and the database changes the integrity of this list afterwards, Crystal will not reflect the change.

I believe IdoMillet and probably ChelseaTech have developed third party solutions which address and enable dynamic picklists.

Check out and for more information.

Hi. I just noticed the same thing yesterday. We're not happy that dynamic lists are not available. One would think that this would be possible since the source of the information is available to Crystal when the parameter is setup.

I don't need the third party software for my internal reports, however, I probably would want it if I was creating reports for third party users. In the interim, I checked the box during the creation of the parameter field that says "Allow editing of default values when there is more than one value". This box at least allows me to type in the value I want and have it included in the report. I just need to know the exact spelling.
