Hi,
I work for a small ministry based company doing basically all things "technical". Part of my job is maintaing our website. We recently invested in a Direcway two-way satellite system. DSL and cable are not avaliable in our area. I spoke with the salesperson when we purhcased this system and she assured me that updating our website via FTP wouldn't be a problem. Well, Now that it is installed and running, I have found that quite the opposite is true. Connecting to the FTP is not a problem and signing in is not either, however when a directory listing is requested, the program hangs. I have tried many different FTP programs including the command line version included with WinXP. I have read many forums and talked to many outsourced tech support folks who speak anything but english and the bottom line is the DirecWay folks "Do not offer technical support for FTP" because FTP " is not expressedly guaranteed by the company". Here is where you guys come in. The problem is most likely the rediculus proxy setup Direcway sends our communications through before allowing the communications to continue. Does anyone know how to get a reliable FTP connection over a DirecWay two-way satellite system. I have the DWL6000 if this helps any. Thanks in advance!

First of all lets start with the most obviuos problem and that would be the ID 10 T issue. I personally believe that this is where you will find your problem. I have run FTPX over the exact same system and found there to be no problem. The one thing you might want check is to make sure that you are set up in a PASV mode for your file transfer. If this dosent work for you then I would recommend that you don't turn on the pc.

Thank you DaMan,
Your suggestion is a good one and works great. However, if you feel that the PASV mode option is such an obvious answer that the only other alternative would be to refrain from computer use, perhaps you should relay this suggestion to DirecWay. There are at least 3 technical support persons to whom I have spoken directly who were unaware of this solution at that time. Since you are new to this forum, perhaps you are unaware that common curtesy is generally appreciated. Thanks again for the solution!
