When I try to convert my avi's to mpeg using the transcoder included in dvdit( The best I've found so far quality wise) it often aborts the proccess and gives me a 'unknown failure' message. I have tried the mpeg converter in adobe premiere 6.5 but the quality is lower than dvdit's. My question is: Anybody out there know why this is happening? And how do I fix it? And yes, I have disarmed all other active programs, as well as the power saver options. Thanks.

Tell us more about your system. What OS are you running, for example?

Can you convert those same AVIs to MPGS okay using the Premiere encoder?

My system specs - I am running a 2 Ghz processor, win XP pro with 512 meg ram. I have used the converter in premiere 6.5, but I like to use a dazzle mpeg converter in favor of premiere's. It's quicker, and the quality is about equal to premiere's. However, I would really like to continue to use dvdit's, as it is far superior quality wise, than my other two options. Dvdit mpeg conversion is possible on my system, but can take up to 5 try's before it works. At anywhere between 1-7 hours per try, this gets a bit fustrating. any and all help is appericated. thanks

STick with Dazzle.
download a program called Tsunami Mpeg Encoder (invest ht $30 to license the mpeg2) has tutorials as well as dvd templates (encoding) to use.

I find that tmpegenc has better encodes for DVD streams to plug into Dvdit

And I might suggest looking into ULEADS DVD Movie Factory or Pinnacles DVD Express instead. DvDit is too damn buggy.
