Hi,

Is DVD supported for read/write (not in backup format !),so that the user can interactively read/write,like with the filesystem ?

Any 3-rd party software ? "Long live king Moshiach !"

hi ,

The AIX 4 release notes mention system backups such as mksyb and savevg commands limits the media to be 4.7GB or larger , if you use smaller media would result in corruption if you go beyond that capacity.

Also look at

/usr/lpp/bos.sysmgr/mkcd.README.txt

lists info about doing backups to DVD

Thanks,

Looked inside, did not find any info on how to read/write interactively (not a backup format). "Long live king Moshiach !"

We were investigating this for a while with us.

Officially, AIX 5+ supports UFS for DVD-RAM to mimic "packet writing" type environments on Windows. In other words the DVD is treated as a separate filesytem. Suppossedly this is only valid for the DVD-RAM drive IBM ships with it's newer workstations.

UN-Officially IBM says the IDE DVD-ROM drives they ship (ie. on the 615's) might be able to be swapped out with a COTS type DVD burner. From here you can use CD-toast (comes with AIX or avaliable online) to burn DVD's. There's also a 3rd party company you can look into: that supports UNIX for DVD's so long as you a compatible DVD drive.

Hope this helps.
