Hello,
I used to be able to play DVD's on this player, but now I get, "please insert disc" no matter what I do.I can still play audio cd's. I've tried updating the decoder but it will not install.

Anyone have any ideas?

if you put a dvd in there, and then open up explorer, what do you see in the dvd drive?

there should be a few directories, and a few files, including some ending with .vob and stuff...

if you are not seeing anything in the dvd drive with explorer, then your dvd drive is not working.
if you can see the files, then it's your software dvd player that's broke.

Hello Crowley16,

After the cursor flashes an icon of a disc for a while...nothing. If I open "my Computer", F drive doesn't show a disc. Open F drive and it says to insert a disc. Any player I try says no disc inserted. It does play audio CD's. I thought it might be a driver or missing decoder issue but the updates I found wont install.

1) What software did you install with the DVD burner - Roxio or Nero?

2) Did it ever work?

A3) re you inserting a commercial DVD or a blank DVD?

Since audio CD's work, it sounds like a configuration problem or corrupted setting in the registry.

Sorry, that should have said "Are you inserting..

1) The computer came with Media Bar. I have both of the others.

2) Yes. All though I never tried to record anything, it would play a DVD.

3) Using a commercial DVD. The last time I tried a blank [about a year ago] a message would say "No blank media installed" [something like that]

I also think it's a driver, codec, decoder, or configuration problem.

Thanks for pointing me to the rules and regs faq. This is one of many places I'm looking for an answer to this. I appreciate your help, and if I'm going about it the wrong way just tell me.

Just remembered something. I have the DVD burner, F drive, and a CD player, G drive. I could burn disc to disc. Now when I open "My Computer", it only shows F drive and not the G drive. The device is not shown in the Device Manager, either.

Gee, this is getting worse, LOL.
