Did you have any software installed for burning CD's like Nero Burning ROM or Roxio Easy CD Creator?

What version of Windows?

I have Nero Express 6 and i am running on windows XP Professional. The dvd rom just doesnt want to spin the cds or cdr's. as i said before when i put a dvd in it they stop right up. when i have cd in th drive i hear it wanting to spin but it doesn;t.

Bad drive. The CDs should work in native mode and no software should be needed.

Franklin,
That's correct. However, I've seen registry keys damaged from burning software, such as Roxio's, that causes this kind of problem. Remember, the same laser is used to read both DVD's and CD's, and the DVD side is working.

spikeangelfan1984,
Get your hands on a Win98 boot disk at and boot from it. See if you can read a CD from a DOS prompt. If so, then you know you have a Windows registry problem. If not, then it could very well be a hardware issue. In that case, you would want to try the drive in another system or clean the inside with a can of compressed air.

Let us know what you find...

Hola, I agree with Franklin... had a DVD that wouldn't read DVD's but read CD's/CD-R's/and RW's... got it replaced as it was still on warranty...

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...
