The following problem is driving me almost mad. Some help would be appreciated!

I’ve faced many many ridiculous problems with the render process of Pinnacle 8. One of the suggestions I’ve read on the Pinnacle forum was to defragment my harddisk to optimize. Although there was plenty of free space on my hard disk I decided to buy another one (160 Mb.) and I performed the defragmation action many times.
Four heart attacking weeks later I managed to produce a burnable image of the movie (2,2 Gb) Again Mr. Murphey and Ms. Hell decided to return to my PC and disturbed the burning process. My DVD-burner (Toshiba SD-R5002) refused to burn any DVD from any brand of any type (write once or rewritable.) However writing a CD works fine, no problem! (I didn’t try the rewritable, but I don’t expect a problem) Reading DVD’s is also no problem at all.
My last succesfull DVD-burning was on the 11 september, two weeks after installing the additional disc.

Other information:
DVD brands:
MMore DVD-RW (unused, to check the quality two of them were successfully burned on another PC and were readable on my PC, but inerasable)
MMore DVD-R (I always used the MMore without any problem), Maxell DVD-R, TDK DVD-R (all error message: disc not empty) and Philips DVD-R (just to sure)

DVD Shrink 3.2:
Message: The R/W disc is not empty, do you want to erase it? However all output files were successfully encoded, and they are ready for burning with appropriate DVD burning software.

Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2SE
Message: The disc is not empty, neither there is no disc in the device. Insert an empy disc and try again.

Pinnacle 8.1 and 8.3 and 9
Trying to burn a 14 seconds short movie, which was burned successfully in the past.
Message: The RW-disc has to be erased before burning. Do you want to erase the disc? Yes, I want.
After a few seconds the second message appears: A fatal and unknown error has occurred.

InstantWrite DVD-RW format
Initiated by a right mouseclick in the explorer. For a quick format as well as a full format the error message is the same: ‘An error occurred while formatting the medium’

Other useless attempts:
Checking if cable new harddrive is on the same IDE as the DVD (no!)
Detach new harddrive (no result)
Checking ASPI drivers (at first sight no problem, but I’m not familiar with this stuff)
Uninstall NERO, reboot, check register with JV16 Powertools and reinstall (several times)
Checking for new firmware for the Toshiba, there was an update but this was concerning the regiocode. I decided to ignore the new version.
Talk to the PC and threaten the stupid device with hell and rubbish dump.

Nero Express:
Message: the disc is not rewritable and therefore cannot be erased. Please insert a rewritable disc.
Disc information: the disc is empty with in the heading a strange remark : blanc read only CD (instead of DVD)
A quick erase and a full erase didn’t have any positive result.

Any particular reason this post has advertising links in it? I'm getting a marketing message when I scroll over the double underlined words. Dell, Roxio, etc.

kiddpete:
All posts have been that way for a week. I contacted Tech-Tips support to see if it was caused by them, but after 8 days - no response, I suppose they don't care to respond. I guess who ever monitors support questions is on vacation!

It's just another form of advertising on the site. A lot of other sites use it as well, or are starting to move in that direction. The ads displayed, I don't think, are directly affiliated with the site.

Ronalddd,
I don't know if it will make a difference or not, but I would try alternating the two drives on the secondary IDE channel. Make the Toshiba the master and the other the slave (some brands have been known to have issues when configured as slave).

In addition, uninstall nero, reboot, and reinstall it. This will replace any corrupted ASPI layer components that Nero needs.

Good Luck!
