I always thought that DVD-R would be the standard one day, but I heard on TV the other day that DVD+R might shake out to be the standard.

Any thoughts?

The war is over! Or perhaps more appropriately, it never really started.

Pioneer pioneered the "-" r/rw format. Within months of the DVD "+" format release, they started shipping DVD burners that could do either format.

Therefore with dual-format burners, no one is going to really care which one is superior in the long run. This site has some more insight if you're interested:

Seriously, before that crap ever gets finalized, newer format wars will begin between Blue-Ray, HD-DVD, EVD.

All it really boils down to in the end is who gets the royalty payments for the sold devices.

It will never end...

The quest for technological advancement will undoubtedly never end.

From a technical perspective, the match between "+" and "-" (this thread's topic) lasted 5 minutes.

Heres a question: when discussing DVD formats with someone, for "-" R do you say “minus” R or “dash” R?

cougar,
If your DVD player was made within the past 3 years, chnces are you won't have any problems with either format.

Dual-format burners are the way to go, so if you're looking to buy, it's worth the extra $20-30 investment.

dbert,
That would be "minus" R and "plus" R.
