Greetings
I am looking for an enclosure that will support two drives simultaneously. Id like an internal DVD and an internal hard drive in the same enclosure. To be attached to my notebook.

Two 6pin 1394 Connectors Fully Supports ATA33/66/100 IDE Device Interface compatible ATA 133 Maxtor up to 160GB Hard Disk Drive.

Id like to have this connect to my system via firewire.

Am I living in a fantasy world? Can this be done? What should I ask the desk clerk when I am ordering parts? They look at me now as though im a dingbat.

Thank you for your time

Probably not gonna happen since a HD is 3.5 inches and a cd/dvd is 5 inches.

You"ll find a wide selection of enclosures and outboard dvd recorders at a Mac specialist. If you don't already own the hard drive, you might look at their prices for firewire/usb hard drives. They're pretty good.

I would suggest that you ALWAYS get an outboard drive that connects via firewire & USB. That way, you'll be able to connect to any machine, mac or PC, in the future or to older macs that don't support firewire.

You might want to consider the HDD FW/USB enclosure having the ability of being powered by the FW cable. Saves having to cart another power brick & cable about. owc are good, but also check ebuyer.

Dude,

check out
They have enclosures for $125 that house a hard drive and optical. You'll have to spend an addition $28 for the caddy so the hard drive fits in the bay, but that's the ticket.

The double enclosure for 5.25" devices (like the CD drive) will fit
a 3.5" drive without a caddy; that caddy allows the hard drive to
be unplugged easily, that's all.

For about the same price as the dual enclosure, you can get two single
enclosures, at just about any dealer. The enclosures usually have
daisy-chain connectors, so you can string together as many as you want
or need.

Also, if you have another Macintosh, you can hold down the T button on
the keyboard while starting up, and it will make the CD and hard drive
accessible on the Firewire bus. This is a VERY useful feature.
