My two year old Pioneer DVD-A05S Drive was able to play DVD movies until last week. Now, all I can play are audio cds and vcd movies. Whenever I insert a dvd disc, the LED will light for a few seconds and then the drive spits out the disc. Can anybody please tell me what's going on? Is it time to say goodbye to my drive and buy a new one?

Have you tried different DVD's?
What zone are the DVD's rated for, and what will yours play? Kimber

PC DVD players have 2 lenses/lasers - 1 for reading normal cds, and another for reading DVDs.

It could be that the DVD one has failed, hence it won't play DVD, but can still play cds.

Goodbye drive . . .

What happens when you try to play one? Did you uninstall your DVD decoder program?

KimberTech, I tried playing all my dvds but got the same results. My dvds are rated region 1 and I can play them all in my dvd drive before.
stuartd, thanks for that bit of info.
smah, when I insert a dvd disc, the LED just lights for a few seconds and then the drive spits out the disc. Using powerdvd, it says there is no disc in the drive.

I tried inserting a dvd disc under pure dos mode, I get the same result. the disc just wouldn't stay in the drive.

As far as I can tell from here...only one thing left you can try.
Some compressed air and blow out the drive, in case there is dust interfering with the lenses.

Other than that....it is pooched and needs to be repaired or replaced.
(No user replaceable parts)

Hope it works out for you... Kimber

I guess you're right, kimber, time to get a new one. Thanks.

Sorry we couldn't do more from our end.

Good Luck! Kimber
