I just picked up my Sony DRU-500A. I had read (!) that blank DVD's were under a dollar per disk, and found that they are on the web.
I hesitate because the brand names of the disks available at this price mean nothing to me.
Does anybody have thoughts on what brands work well.. what to avoid.. what works or doesn't with this particular burner?

Many Thanks

Paul

It's not so much the particular burner, it's more so the company and the quality of the product they manufacture. I've personally always gone with Imation or Memorex, simply because they seem to be versatile at both slow and fast speeds, and aside from this (and more importantly), they seem to be more durable in terms of physical endurance and data retention. Hope this helps.

When CD burners came out, the brand of the disk made all the difference in the world. Many manufacturers would say you have to use "X" brand diskette otherwise we will not give you tech support. Then ( I presume ) some standards were enforced.
I'm glad to see your comments: hopefully it means DVD standards are already in place. The DVD disks I see for a dollar apiece are not of the brand names you mentioned..I don't know. If the price difference is a dollar vs 5 dollars it's worth trying a less popular brand. If only 50 cents it's not...
Time to do some comparrison shopping!

Thanks for the feedback

Paul
