dusyi command doesn´t work 1

Hi guys!

I need your help again. I have a MD110 BC9 that dusyi command doesn´t work. I searched for helping at other threads about the similar problem. The REL1 has a error in file S1/L001 and the date file is missing, but REL2 is okay. If I reset the MD110, would I restore the system with the REL2 information or not? I´m afraid to reset the MD110 and the system doesn´t back to normal operation.

The problem is the same yet.

I took the hard disk (2167MB) from the HDU board. I formatted at a computer and tested. It seems good. But when I took back to the HDU board, the fail continues the same.

I opened the both 1/2 conector SCSI and saw the pins are right.

So I decided to reset some UNITs and I noticed that I can not reset the EXS unit. This UNIT is the first in the row of PID file.

As I told you before, restarting this and that won't help (RFEXI starts all units), your problem is not in the SW. EXS cannot be started with RFPUI, it is the sole "heart" of the MD. The issue is that the system doesn't find your HDU info....
If you trace FIP, when trying to dump, it shows your problem (hopefully)
 
Sorry fcpli, but how can I trace FIP?

I understood for your experience and knowledge you think the problem is in HW. Maybe it really can be. But both HDUs? If it will be a HW´s problem, my bet would be a IPU fail because I could not change for a good IPU.

What do you think if I run SFCEI?
 
Hi,
SFCEI won't help, RFEXI is on the limits, but you can try (if you believe it is a SW issue) - risk is yours. RFEXI catches the local dump data, not external. Your IPU seems to have a proper SW, so in this case no idea. But to trace:
1) stisr;
2) stuni.unit=fip,lim=1;
3) stss:tri=1,size=500; (if the size is not allowed, change to 250 - I don't remember the max size of BC9)
4) sttsi:tri=1;
try to dump
after the dump is refused (immediately):
5) sttse:tri=1;
6) strap:tri=1;
note, this is just for starting the troubleshooting, but maybe we can see it from here...
himdp: pls follow up this one.....

If you think your IPU has a problem, and also the one you changed - seems very strange (I never seen 2 IPUs faulty). Still, the problem in my humble opinion is that your HDU is not compatible with BC9...
Maybe somebody from our museum remembers the HDU max size?
 
What are numbers and revisions of HDU you are trying?

I will try to trace FIP unit next monday and put the result here.
If RFEXI catches the local dump data, not external, as you said, it sounds good because every time the second HDU (2167MB) is active and I execute DUSYI, the local dump is performed even though the external dump is not done. When the first HDU is active and I run DUSYI the local dump is not done.

When I changed the IPU to another, nothing worked, I even lost access through the serial port. I even installed this other IPU in another LIM and also could not get serial access. And to make matters worse I can not delete the board in the system.

About the incompatibility of the HDU, I think that would not be the case, at least for the HDU (30GB) because it was what was working before.

One question: When running DUSYI, is the entire operating system rebooted and loaded from the local dump? If so, why not think about this possibility? Now if the operating system is corrupted, a reset would be disastrous because in this case the MD110 would be totally inoperative.

On the HDU labels are:
HDU (30GB) - ROF 137 5398/2 R1F
HDU (2167MB) - ROF 137 5398/2 R1B

 
I know that HDU7 ROF 137 5398/2 was introduced in BC9 as R1A and became R1B in BC10 CNI143.
Having said that, as long as the IPU has the correct firmware I believe it should work.
You say you formatted one HDU on a PC, FAT32 or NTFS will not work on MD110, have you reformatted with the MD or ipux?

Performing DUSYI will not normally restart and/or reload the system.
 
I formatted the second HDU using FAT32 just to verify if it was good without any bad block or something like that. But when I put again at the system I executed FICRI.

In the beginning of the trace the system is trying to determine, which REL is older. Here, REL2 does not show anything clever, so REL1 is taken. Even here the last dump was from 2011.

Now the old REL1 is cleared, and new /sysn/usr1/ses/dr/rel1 is written (step by step). After that P, S1,S2,S3.S4,S5 are made - until now it goes as expected. But the, when trying to create a PID file, everything f...s up, and the whole procedure is closed. Why? no idea. What you can check, is that you have access to these files (PID, SID etc.) with
ficap:path=/sysn/usr1/ses/dr/rel1;

lpb612: It is worth pointing out that long traces (Traces can be thousands of lines) should be logged to a file, uploaded to ENGENEERING.com then attached to the post using the feature below.

Here IPU seems to be OK, trying to transfer the bytes to HDU, but no success. So, the problem is in the hard disk....

But both HDUs? I did not use FICRI on the first HDU because it has the original data. I not sure that data are good, maybe it is really not. However, when I deleted date file and executed DUSYI on the first HDU, it showed the same problem (failed for file PID).

Now I guess the system is getting worse. Three days ago I have begun to realize the MD110 was losing terminal connection. Just when I reset the IPU board, it is when the serial connection go back.

Here is the alarm:

Buffer transfer = dump in this case. This alarm does not appear, if you are not doing something (dump or equal). So try to replace the IPU, but the trace shows IPU is OK. Of course, no trace can show what happens between the IPU and HDU (scsi bus).
I also assume that your HDU is ok? sipos=3 and max size 64M? In BC9 there was a problem with ficri, but I think you have the correction in FIP. pclop:unit=fip;
 
In this time I do not have a spare IPU.
