Hi there..
Found this inconvenience trying to do something in flash..

I have a movie clip I would like to use as a template for new ones.. that are basically the same..
so I duplicate the original movie, I rename the second duplicate created, then proceed to edit the new one only to find the first one is changed as well, thus, getting nowhere..

is there a way to duplicate a movie clip without it being "linked" so to say to its original?

thanks a million !!!

Matt

When you duplicate from the Library and rename it, and edit that duplicate, it shouldn't affect the original. Sure you're not editing an instance of the original, in which case, all instances of the original would be updated. Regards,

Thanks for the reply !!

and thanks for the info too, is there any way I can make and instance a "second original"??
I made the movie clip using an original bitmap.

this is for some animated buttons I need, of course the text changes for each button, I would like to clone them and edit them separately.. dont know how to figure it out though.

thanks again !

Right-click the object in the Library, and use duplicate there. Then simply edit the renamed duplicate and drag a new instance of it on stage. Repeat the process for as many duplicated objects you need! Regards,

if its just for buttons then no need to mess with the original bitmap
just drag as many copies of the bitmap you want onto the stage convert the bitmap to a movie clip, give it an instance name, add a textbox for a label, and give them the actions required.
movie clips work as buttons in mx

Thanks for all the help!

I will give it a try, I will figure it out by tonite.
