Duplicate Items Detected 1

I'm relatively new to PSP, but not to computers nor graphics programs. I used an ancient steam-powered version of PhotoShop until the boiler rusted out. Then I got PSP (which I really like) and when I select new patterns or tools, I get errors that say, "Duplicate Items Detected Some May Not Be Available."

I click OK and then I get the same message several times in a row and it finally gets over its conniption fit and starts to work...until I select a different texture or...whatever.

I went through the registry and found duplicate identifiers for things like Corel_08 and Corel_15 and removed the item that seemed to have been added most recently. This worked great until I restarted the program. Blammo! The errors were back.

I've found that I really like PSP. It's a much better alternative for me than the newer versions of PS or Gimp.

But this duplicate Items thing is kinda drivin me nuts.

I searched the forum for info on this and came up empty-handed. If someone has run into this before, I'd be very grateful for some insight.

Which version are you using?
You'll probably have to reset the registry but depending on the version the process is a bit different (you can search the forum for the procedures, because those have been posted several times).
Another thing you can do is delete PSP's cache files (you'll find them under the program's folder).

I'm using Version X2 (v12.) I tried searching the forum and archives. No hits on "reset registry." I found many files in the folders under the folder in which the program was located...but I had no idea which files were cached and which were libraries.

So I uninstalled it, removed all referenced to it in the registry and reinstalled. Seems to be working ok now.

I use PSPX and PSPPX2.
Whenever you reset the program, that annoying message pops up, telling you that you have duplicates. (it's not an error)
I always click OK and then it disappears.
Don't worry about settings in the Registry (best left alone anyway).
Next time you are told you have duplicates, click OK. Easy.

Grenou: perhaps I wasn't clear. As I mentioned, the program DID continue to function just fine when the duplicates were detected. But after clicking through them 8 or 10 times every time I selected a swatch got to be rather tiresome. Matter of fact, it made the program almost unusable, since I edit a LOT of photos and the resulting decrease in throughput was quite significant.

I've been manipulating registry entries for years (I always make a backup) and I can't remember ever having caused a problem by doing so...at least not by removing entries for a particular program. Operating system entries are a different story and I only make changes there when I know exactly what I'm going to change.

PSPPX2 now works very well. There are a few things I wish I could change (like the changing the resize dialog to remove the print size...or at least make it the 2nd section and setting a preset for the default pixel width) Other than some minor things like that and losing my custom toolbars when I removed and reinstalled, it's fine. Btw, I recreated the custom toolbars very easily...it was just time consuming and inconvenient.
