Hi All,

I need to maintain a remote copy of a source directory tree, includind all its sub-directories. I am considering using rdist, but am unsure if this does the latter need. Does anyone have any experience in this or can prescribe an alternative method?

Cheers,
Neil

Hello neilsie,

I often work with rdist and I have never had any problems so far.

Best regards
Stefan

cheers, but can you give me some pointers into its operation and usages.

ta,
N.

Hello neilsie,

what to do:

create the file xxx with the following content:

HOLE = (
s2 c12
)

FILES2 = (
/home/catocw
/home/vpmocw
)

${FILES2} -> ${HOLE} install -R ;

and execute it with the following command:
rdist -f xxx

so the content of the directories
/home/catocw
/home/vpmocw
on machines s2 and c12 will be identical to the sources on the local machine.

I hope this helps
Regards
Stefan

Thansk Stefan that helps a great deal. A question though, if I have sub directories, will it also copy their contents?

Hello neilsie,

yes it does. With the option -R the directories will be exactly identical. Files that are not existing on the source machine will be removed, so be careful with this very powerful command.
When you a enter a dedicated file name, only this file is taken into account.

Regards
Stefan
