Basically I have 2 databases viewable in php My Admin.

One is an English database and the other is a German database.

There has been a lot of work on the content of the english and what we want to do is take an exact copy of that, and then import that into the german database.

Then I can re-translate it again, but its worth it as it will save time.

What I need help on, is how do I copy that english database, and then how do I import it into the german database, as an exact copy of the english one.

Cheers

phpmyadmin, if i recall (haven't used it in years, don't like it very much) has an Export tab

this will do exactly what you want

Yes I just went through it and found exactly that.

My new doubt is what format to export the database into as there are so many there, which is then doubly strange as in the Import bit, the message before you search for the file to import is:

"Location of the text file"

Now do I therefore need to export as a text file, before then importing as a text file, or can I or do I need to export the database as something else.

Cheers

text file is fine

the dump consists of SQL source code -- the CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements that will allow you to populate and empty database

you can then, if you wish, perform text edits on the generated file, and change table or column names, etc.
