We are getting ready to put together a server for running backup exec. Our question is, would we better off purchasing the second processor, or would we better off with one really fast processor and a lot of memory or both?

Thanks,
-danny

No need for a second processor - get a half decent amount of RAM and put the fastest backplane possible and the fastest backup device you can afford.

A second processor is not going to help, in fact I don't even think backup exec can see more then one processor. Like Zelandakh said, get a fast processor, lots of RAM, and a fast SCSI backplane, and your set.

Unless you're going to be doing other things with the server a single fast processor with the aforementioned should suffice. Maybe a multiple tape machine if you anticipate using more than one tape in a run.
