I have a 13hg hard drive partitioned it to 4 drives (c, d, e ,f).
I am using win 98 but wondered if I could install win NT workstation on F drive and have a choice of which op system I wanted to boot from
The idea being if I like winNT then perhaps I will get rid of 98 and continue with NT only

Hi.
Yes, you can have both operating systems in the same hd, but be aware when you install them. NEVER, I repeat, NEVER install Win98 after instaling Win NT. You will loose both of them. First you must install Win98 in the first partition of the hd (usually it is the c:\ drive) and then you may install Win NT. Win NT will automatically create the dual boot and you will be able to choose in wich operating system you want to work. By the way, after installing Win NT you should install Service Pack 6.0.
Last, but not least, if you're a home user I would advise you to choose Win 2000 Pro (unless you have less than 128Mb RAM). You'd get the stability of Win NT and the versatility of Win98.
