I have a user that has dual video card with her flat screen monitor and the other monitor is down the hall in the bosses office. (he can see what she working on and they make changes to documents without him having to go into her office) every time she turns on both monitors using advanced video setting within control panel her machine reboots.

pentium 4 2.8 fsb800
512 ram
video 256ram
win px pro

I have not seen anything unusual, machine runs sweet except when both monitors are turned on.

any ideas.

I suspect the computer needs to reboot in order to change to dual monitor "mode". I mean, does it constantly reboot or is it just once and then things are fine?

If the boss has XP Pro also, and you want him to be able to see her desktop without her having to reboot then you should look into utilizing XP Pro's "Remote Desktop" functionality.

yes, he has xp-pro , but does not effect his machine. his machine is solo. there is a flat screen monitor mounted on the wall by his desk and thats how he can see her workstation. I have a 50ft cable running thru the walls to her desk and it is connected to her dual video card.

I'll bet she doesn't go to any naughty sites with her boss looking at her screen!

Talk about micro-management in action.

I'll shut up now.

. Remote desktop will not permit a shared workspace. Remote Assistance can.

. the 50' cable bothers me. I assume this is a specialized cable of some sort for KVM usage.

. If this is a NVIDIA chipset display adapter, this is a known issue. Update the drivers.

. Be certain you are current on DirectX from Microsoft downloads.

What information is coming out of the Event Viewer?

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on these sites.

Also check any "Information" line that mentions "savedump" and you should find reference to "recovered from a bug check". This is the Stop Error that caused your problem.

You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.
