Hi,

We're looking at investing in some dual layered DVD writers at work and have a couple of questions.

1. Can dual layered disks be played in standard DVD rom drives ? i.e Would we need to purchase new DVD ROM drives to read dual layered disks.

2. Can dual layered burners also burn single layered disks.

3. Are there many media compatability issues with dual layered burners. I know certain brands of single layered burners have problems with certain brands of media (i.e. Dye incompatability). Is this the same with dual layered ?

Thanks,
M.

1) Yes no probs

2) Yes! of course

3) Unfortunately the same problems with disc compatibility still exist, thankfully, buying one of the top brands mean firmware upgrades eliminate many of these problems.

Best OEM drive at the momemt seems to be the new 16x dual layer NEC ND-3500A
I've got the new Pioneer 108D and am very pleased with it.
