Dual Ethernet

Hey all,

Most of our servers have dual gigabit ethernet.

Currently though they are running on a 100mbps network - on one ethernet link.

We are looking to upgrade our backbone to 1gig. Can we plug these servers in twice and get 2gbps?

How do we configure it? I have read some stuff on the net about "teaming" and suchlike, but nothing on the how to?

Does anyone have any instructions if this is possible? or a link to instructions?

Do we need a fancy switch to cope?

NIC teaming has to be done with NIC's that can accommodate the the act of teaming, not all cards can team. Typically, cards will support a few different types of teaming. Fail over teaming and load balanced teaming are the two most popular.

Without the details of which NIC's you have and what version of OS and drivers you are using and etc I can't give you specific instrucitons on how to team the NIC's that you have. Here is a link to Intel teaming, it might help

The question of what type of switch you need is also too broad. You will need a switch that doesn't prevent the teaming but for the most part a standard switch will work. H
