Dual boot W98/XP network conflict

I have a dual boot W98/XP system and I am having trouble accessing the internet when in XP, yet I am able to access the internet in W98. My TCP/IP settings are set to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP).

When I run ipconfig /all in W98 my results are: 0 Ethernet adapter and all the address are set to zero and no default gateway is listed...1 Ethernet adapter and the correct IP addresses are listed as well as the gateway.

It is the same IP address that I get when pinging in XP, yet I am not able to connect to the internet.
My ISP claims the system is down in my area, yet I am able to connect to the internet when in W98.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

KW

The ISP usually will give you an IP address from their DHCP pool addreses, based on your MAC address of your network card.
Check if the IP configuration is the same in both cases (check with ipconfig, winipcfg) (I couldn't understand from your message). They should be. If not, then you have a problem in configuring the driver in Windows XP.
If they are the same and your internet connection is not working, then you might have a DNS problem. Check DNS configuration. You should use everything automatically, provided by DHCP (don't use statically ones).
Well,... I hope that will help you (if you didn't solve it yet). Gia Betiu

Thank you for the response. I was never able to solve the problem. I ended up giving the computer to my mom and built another one for myself. I am using the same network card with the same Win98/XP dual boot set up, but the problem did not occur.
The only thing I can think is that the old settings from my ISP was conflicting with the change they made to their service. Formatting the drive and reinstalling the OS may have been the only solution!

Thanks again,

Karen
