DTS transform - over my head

Hi,

I am attempting to migrate a DTS package to 2005.

Several of the steps in this particular pkg involve a "Data Transform" task, which according to my SSIS book, have a low probability of successful migration due to the complexity of the data transform.

So, it looks like I will have to re-write the tranform part.

My question is, how should I approach this? Is there an equivalent Data Transform Task for 2005? Will I still need to define a Connection Manager for each flat file?

Still learning...

THANKs

Yes there is a data transformation object in SSIS. In SSIS you devine a connection to each text file within the package, then within the SSIS package you define the transformations as needed.

Hi MrDenny,

You seem to know more about this than me, so could I please ask you some more questions -

I see that the "Data Flow Task" is probably what I want to use.

So far, I removed the old Tranform Task, and replaced it with a Data Flow Task, so that it looks like:

[Execute task (DELETE stmt)] > [Success Constraint] > [Data Flow Task]

And this is where I'm getting stuck. I double-click on Data Flow Task, and it takes me to a blank page on another tab, where I now have an expanded Data Flow Task toolbar.

What I'm trying to do is open a flat file, extract the columns and map them to columns in a table.

I have no idea what comes next. Which Data Flow Task should I select? Data Conversion? Import Column? etc?

Please help.... thank you
