DTS runs on 1 client pc, but not another.

Hi,

I have a DTS package which runs successfully on my own client PC.

However, when I attempt to run it on other machines, using the same account, the steps copying data from a file to a table fail with error -2147217887 (80040E21).

Have tried reinstalling SQL on the failing machines but this did not fix it.

Any ideas?

Hi There

I had that problem before. I created a dts package on my own client pc on the server and tried to run it from another client pc but it didnt work.

There is something about DTS packages that they only run on the pc that they were created on so when you are trying to run it on another client it is actually trying to run it on the pc you created it on ... (confusing I know)... and doesnt have permissions so it fails.
The best thing to do is create the DTS package on the server itself and if both clients have permissions to SQL Server and to run DTS packages it should work as it is now trying to run the package on the server and not on the client pc.

Have created another similiar DTS on the server, even created a further one on the other client PC.

Unfortunately they both still fail with exactly the same error.

Have you tried re-installing the latest SQL Server service pack on the client PC's. This has sloved some DTS errors for me which I have had in the past.

Just a thought but could it be something to do with possible permision problems.

I had installed the service pack on my own machine, but had forgotten all about it on the client.
