DTR ports

hi, what is a DTR port? i have 8 TN's built as DTR ports and i've never seen them before. they start at 0 0 and go up to 0 7. what are they for? i've seen a DTR card, but never seen ports built for it in a Switch. i found these on a branch office.

when i print the TNB, this is what i get:

TN 000 0 00 00
TYPE DTR
CDEN 8D
DATE 1 APR 1993

Those are your Digit Tone Receiver ports for provide dial tone to your analog cards and you most likely need them.

If not you can out them in LD 13.

My guess is if you had to ask what they are and what they do, you should leave them alone.

they are built on the ssc card in that system and your did's use them and as stated any analog stations.. analogs work inbound but can't break dialtone.. i didn't know that did's used them until i set up a test opt 11 here without any analogs.. my pri between the 11 and my 81 worked one way untill i added the dtr's..

thanks gents, but we have 2 more branch offices and they don't have any DTR ports built, but we know for sure that they have fax machines. seems odd to me.......

Are you sure the Fax's go thugh the PBX?

I have some that don't.

it's not a traditional PBX, it's a branch office. if u haven't seen these yet, they look like network switches and are usually placed on racks.
depending on the configuration, some of them have analog cards, but they're smaller than the ones used on Option 11's or 81's.

all my faxes go through the pbx.. why pay for 100's of 1fb's at 39 plus a month for a fax machine

If you printed the TNB for the DTR as above, then it's a traditional PBX.

not true.

branch offices work the same way as option 11's and 81's. you can access all the loads the same way and program sets, print TN's, stat loops, etc. the difference between a branch office and a PBX is the size and the fact that it's usually installed to work in sync w/a large system, for example an 81C. we have 3 of them in the field and they all talk to an Option 81 in our headquarters. the phones are built in the two places, but they are registered on the Option 81.
check out nortel's website and do a search for branch office. they're pretty neat and provide a great IP solution.

When you said Branch office I though you were talking about remote site with it's own PBX, not a nortel product called Branch Office. I never used that one, I use Remote Office 9115's

I looked at the Nortel web site and it looks like it is a VOIP box that ties back to the PBX at the home office and can be accessed at the remote site, but what you are seeing is the PBX not the branch office when you are looking a TN's. I see the same thing on my remotes.

mr. warlock, glad i explained it. branch offices are fairly new and not too many guys know about them, including myself.

however, you're still wrong about seeing the PBX when i look at TN's. when i go into a branch office, i log in via IP and i'm logging into the box, not my option 81C.

branch offices are stand alone boxes that are surviveable. they tie back to a large system usually for voicemail and to make LD calls, as is the case w/ours. they're pretty expensive, especially the $200 pop for every IP license, but everyone wants IP so you have to pay to play.
