Have a problem with SOE 2.1(24). Locale set for enu, but get E1 PRI in config. This T1 option changes randomly after reboot. Wierd things happening following bad weather. Accessed DTE port to erase config, but when I try to enter any commands the screen font changes and Hyperterminal is unresponsive. Any suggestions???

The 3 things I would do first.

Try different lead.
Check Hyperterminal configuration.
Different PC.

If that fails then worry.

The lead is good...use it on other pieces of equipment (callpilot) w/no prob. Hyperterminal settings, check. Use different PC, check. Same result.

Export all configentrys you need, default the unit with dte, upgrade to 2.1.31, import the configentrys, test the system, if it still fails replace the unit.
If nothing helps contact your reseller or Avaya.

Hyperterminal is usualy set to auto dectect the terminal emulation type & can sometimes switch to minitel mode when typeing <esc>A

change your settings in hyperterminal to use ANSI emulation

However I would sugest the DTE port should only be used when all other means of connection to the IPO have failed.
If you can talk to the IPO using manager then use this to erase the CFG & upgrade not the DTE port

if you must use the DTE port then FAQ940-5284 can be a life saver.
