Hey all,
I have an IP Office 406V2 that i bought and am using for training, i didn't get a DTE cable with it though and wondered if it was just a standard 9 Pin Male to 9 Pin Female RS232 cable or something non standard?
Yeah, that'll do. I have an 8m long one, as you never know what access to customers Kit and/or the comms room is going to be like and I hate standing up trying to hold a laptop and type at the same time
Haha - Mixed messages here, i hate serial cables for this reason.
Ok, hairlessupportmonkey you pointed me to a cable on Ebay which looks wrong, as its Female to Female, the DTE port on the back of the 406 V2 is female as well, so unless i get a double dildo (technical term) that aint going to work.
amriddle01 seems to think the cable i posted earlier is correct BUT as hairlessupportmonkey its not a null cable.
Soooo, how about this then? A 3m DB9 RS232 Serial Null Modem Cable Female/Male
I was responding to HSM's post, but you are correct it should be Male to Female Null modem lead, I pinch them out of analogue modem boxes as they never get used anyway
I thought I'd not have to look at serial cables again ! Any way looking at 'ports and cables' in the installation guide the cable is shown as being wired straight through which would make it a modem rather than a null modem cable:
IP Office 9-Way
RS232 DTE Port
Signal PC/Terminal
Adaptor
3 Receive data 3
2 Transmit Data 2
7 RTS (Request To Send) 7
8 CTS (Clear To Send) 8
Any thoughts ?
6 DSR (Data Set Ready) 6
5 Ground 5
1 DCD (Data Carrier Detect) 1
4 DTR (Data Terminal Ready) 4
9 RI (Ring Indicator) 9
male to female straight through
I have several 9 pin adapters to RJ45 some male some female and they are labelled with straight or crossover, that way I can use them for switches and DTE and have a patch cable between them to make the length I need or want it for.
PIN 2 and 3 are send and receive so if you get your hands on a rs232 9 pin to RJ45 just make your own and it is more versatile than just a direct cable male - female
they are about $1 each
