Hi All,
Thanks again jad for your help, the script worked...

I am running Solaris 8 with NIS+. When I go to any of my clients and log in as a NIS+ user I get "DT Messaging System could not be started........" and then all you can do is click the ok button and go back to the login screen, however if I log onto the client as root or a local user I don't get this message. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I went to sunsolve but none of their solutions make any sense to me.

Thanks for any help.

Are the permissions correctly set on the users home directory. You may also want to copy .dt and .dtprofile from another user and try it. Too bad I.T. is not cash business

The permissions seem to be set correctly. If I go to the server and login as stud01 (the user) everything works great.BUT when I go to my workstation and logon as stud01 I get the DT error or I get a black screen.. Depending on which workstation I try to logon to... Any idea's????

Try logging in as one of those users just using text/console mode and make sure that their home directory is being mounted properly, etc. Annihilannic.

thank you Annihilannic... You are right the home directory is not getting mounted properly.... I'm using NIS+ and thought I followed all the directions... How do I get the home directory to mount on the client???

Read about automount and automountd. If you get stuck let us know. Annihilannic.

Well I've been reading all about NFS and auto_master and the sorts.... Everything looks to be setup on the server but now when I go to the client I get automountd[191] server not responding. Did I miss a step somewhere?? I didn't do anything to the client other then make sure it had and auto_home and auto_master in the etc file..

I'm so close but sooooo far from getting this LAN setup... Thanks to everyone for the help, it's been great and informative...

What do you have in your auto_home and auto_master files? Are you using NIS+ maps for these? Since you are using NIS+ it may be a good idea. Annihilannic.

I think I cheated... I went on the server and shared the users home directory... Then went on the workstation and automounted this users home directory... This worked I can log on as user1 and get the home directory of the user from the server BUT that is it... I can not run any of the software on the server because it can't be found from the workstation... And I did not use the NIS+ way to share... If I went the NIS+ way to share would that fix my problem or not...
