Hi Sirs:
I Would want to use Avaya Media Server for Call Recording in a new CM/SM/SBC deployment without G4xx (only VMS - all IP phones). I have found info about how to calculate DSP resources in old G4xxs, but nothing about how to do it with “new” Avaya Media Server (AMS). Could you give me some tips please?
I see AMS uses “channels” not DSPs, is it the same concept? Why do you need resources for call recording if all connections are IP (no TDM-IP conversion inside a G4xx)?

Forking off a stream to a recorder uses a DSP. Just like conferencing a 3rd person into a call.

I'd use the same numbers. They're ultimately DSPs.

The spec guide says 1 MPU = 1 G711. Because it does so many more codecs, each one uses different amounts of CPU, but the base unit of MPU is a "G711"

So, if you compare a G700/TN2302 DSP to a G450/TN2602, the old ones used 2 DSP for 729. The newer ones use 1 DSP for 729

The media server uses 2 MPU for 729.

So let's say for argument's sake you sized some solution to need 960 DSPs for G711
3 G450s at 320 each covers you.
The AMS comes in 4CPU/4GB RAM at 550 MPU, or 8 and 8 for 1100 MPU or 16 and 16 for 2200 MPU.
An AAMS with 8CPU and 8GB RAM would cover you.
You'd need 960 voip channels licensed for your AAMS.

If you wanted to do the same exercise in G729, you'd be at 2MPU per call and need the 16 CPU/16GB RAM flavour of AMS, but still need 960 channels.

Now, where are your agents, your SBC and your recorder? Presuming it's AES/TSAPI, you can still setup G711 trunks and G711 stations and tap for G729 audio from the AMS/450 to the recorder. Your math would be a little different if you were G729 across the board vs G711 across the board vs recording in 729 of 711 calls etc.
