The controller is on release 8.0.5.12

The first symptoms showed as people having issues logging into voice mail and getting "Not Allowed". After logging into the controller I could see it was in critical alarm with 2 out of 2 DSP resources unavailable. Upon looking through the logs I could see alot of DSP port errors so I performed an Upgradebootroom all and programmed a schedule reboot. After the reboot I can see in the logs:

Log Type: Software
Log Number: 4397
Severity: Error
Date: 2013/Aug/16
Time: 18:04:48
Source: CM
Description: DspDs_Startup - 2 cards did not come out of reset.
Module: Main
File Name and Line Number: I3000_DspDataServices.cpp;1389

I connected to the LX via putty raw 2002 and performed an DumpDspBootInfo and displayed the following:

DumpDspBootInfo
No DSP cards discovered in system
value = 34 = 0x22 = '"'

I then checked under System Hardware modules and can see that slot number 7 & 8 are "4 SHARC 21161 DSP". Am I correct in thinking that these are the embedded onboard resources on the LX?

Is there any further DSP maintenance I can do on this release or is it a swap out of the controller?

Thanks,

Slots 7 & 8 are physical slots on an LX controller
I would power off and then power up and see if that does the trick it is unusual for both to fail

I have done a programmed schedule reboot. I will do a manual reboot to see if I can force them both back into life.

sorry also meant to say there are no embedded resources on an LX either

You may need to do a full power off not just a reboot I have seen this before and only a power off recovers it so if after a reboot it is still the same then power down.

If you are going through the trouble of powering down, I would take the system out, reseat all cards, then power up. Why not?

Check the chassis fans. The LX fans go bad after a while and the system doesn't throw up an alarm when that happens, and when it does the DSP's are one of the first things to fail (next being the hard drive).

Cheers thanks for the advice I will check the fans on the box. The shutdown brought the DSPs back to life.

nice one glad you got it sorted
