Hi there.

We have a 2811 that has a NM-HDV installed, but i dont think its being used and i want to yank it from the router to install something else.

Is a NM-HDV required for a PRI?

You can terminate a PRI on other modules as well like a VWIC2-MFTT1 or it's 2 port sister card.

i guess im trying to understand the proper way you use DSP's. We tend to have shed loads of DSP's at our corp site, that the remotes use, is that normal?

Is a PVDM even required on voice-routers?

Yes they are. Without a PVDM (DSP's) you will not be able to turn up a voice PRI on any voice port for that matter.

1) hmmmmm ok, so local DSP's are used for circuits or voice-ports, but you *could* use remote &/or local DSP's for transcoding and MTP's?

So that makes me a little nervous because im looking to yank out the NM-HDV which has (3) PVDM-12 (C549) in it.

So that would leave the onboard PVDM2-16.

This router currently has a 4port FXO card and a Serial T1 inteface. We are looking to put a PRI soon.

We have configured remote DSP's for transcoding, conf briding and MTP

2) Will I have enough DSP's based on the above??

Yes you can use remote DSP's for transcoding, conferencing etc.
If you take out the NM module you will not have enougn DSP's for an FXO and a PRI.
4port FX0 = 4 DSP's
PRI = 24 DSP's

The PVDM2-16 only gives you 16 and you will need 28.

Here is a link from cco that has a DSP calculator. That should also help you out.

with the DSP calc, you will need a CCO account with Cisco... Just FYI

Guys you have been really helpful.

Its interesting to note that most of our outbound calls go out of our central office so it makes sense that we centralize the majority of our DSP's there.

However they never setup "dspfarm confbrige" instead it just uses transcoding for conf resources, interesting.

Anyway thanks again!!!!

Its always nice to thank people for helping you on an issue by giving them a star...
