I was told by a bell telephone tek that DSP echo cancellation software on voip systems dont work very well but the hardware base work great.Anyone have information regarding this topic would be great thanks.
Depends on the system. Alot of VoiP Manafactures have went through the struggles and finally figured out how to calibrate the settings correctly. Some are still a work in progress.
If possible use SIP trunks, best value more reliabel than POTS.
It's more like some analog trunks don't work well with echo cancelers. Even though there are international standards specifying acceptable levels of return on the line (and acceptable performance of echo cancelers), it's not one of the things your telephone company will check and fix as it is not a problem with analog or even TDM phones (the reverberation is there but you won't notice it).
IP phones have built-in echo cancelers that are excellent on the phones I use.
