dsmerror message: ANS1329S Server out of data storage space 1

I've received these messages from time to time on my NT/2000 servers when they are backing up to TSM. Now, I understand that the TSM Admins have to put new/more tapes in the pool (and that's the limit of what I know), but they are also telling me that when I get this message, I have to then go into each server that got the message and restart the TSM service. Is this true?

Some stats: We have a mix of OS's: NT4.0 SP6a, Win2K SP3, & Win2K SP4 servers. We're mostly running TSM 4.2.1 client and 5.1 on the TSM server (I know nothing about the server other than that).

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!
 
I have never heard that before. The message specifically states you are out of storage space which leads me to believe that the diskpool is full and it cannot reclaim or migrate data due to no tapes. I would have your admins check on the space available in the diskpool, the migration pool, the tape pool, and the Database as well as logs. There should be no reason to stop are restart services.
 
Look at the maximum scratch device your storage pool can allocate.

I had the same error. gui95 hit it right on the head. Remember, the max scratch value is used to estimate the total number of volumes available in the storage pool. Ours was set to 100 and there were about 100 tapes in the storage pool which were all in full status. We assumed when it needed, it would just grab a new scratch tape but since the max was set to 100 we got the error message. Changed it to 200 and everything worked! :)
