Home simple wireless network for DSL service. DSL service in to modem, to Linksys wireless router, to PC "1" via cable.Installed DSL service first, then router, all OK, ISP reached, have internet service. Wireless connection to PC "2" via Linksys USB wireless adapter. Installed OK, displays wireless LAN in Network Connections. Internet service not available. This is where the confusion starts. I add the DSL connection by way of add new network connection, Username, Password, ect., but the DSL connection always remains "disconnected", but I get internet service through the wireless LAN connection. Can anyone offer some insight on why this might be occuring?

The Linksys router is handling the PPoE, and the authentication to your ISP.

There is no reason to use the new connection wizard at any workstation. The wireless router has taken care of all the details of the connection.

So, once the Wireless LAn connection is created, then the internet should be available to me. If so, then I should be able to remove the DSL connection and still have internet service!!

Then I have another question, I've noted on any PC that the DSL connection is installed, if I right click on the connection, go to properties, under the "Broadband connection to make" lies PPPOE. Under it's settings there are three PPP settings, enable LCP ext., enable software compression, and negotiate multi-link for single link connections. I've had to check the latter of the three for the DSL connections to work. Any thoughts? Any PPPOE docs I pull up don't descibe what this is, although I do understand that PPPOE is an extension of PPP point to point protocol. PPP was originally developed for dialup and PPPOE for DSL/ Broadband connections.

I appreciate that info, but I must apologize, maybe I was a little vague. I don't believe that Multi-link for single link connections should be checked when using a DSL connection with only a single modem. This setting is in the event you want to combine two modems to increase bandwidth. However, I can't get my single modem, dsl connection to work, i.e. connect to the internet, without using this setting. Can anyone explain to me what I may have done to cause this problem? Or is it a problem?

Do you have a DSL sync signal? No DSL sync signal, shown on the DSL Modem, never will connect without it.
