I have SBCAmeritech DSL. They supplied the router and service, and there's where the prob begins!

They told me that I would be able to connect the router directly to my network switch so everyone can use the internet. Not so. No one can see the router (ping failed to see the router's IP address).

I have changed the settings on my machine to accept automatic IP and still can't see router. If I connect the router directly to my machine (bypass switch) and use automatic IP, it works fine but I can't use my office network.

I need to be able to see all the computers in the office and connect to the internet.

Any suggestions?

Charles

smiledr,

Yes you can connect the router to the switch but you will need to make sure the router and switch are configured correctly. If your switch is set on a different network segment, your computers will not be able to see the router and, therefore, not get a address from the DHCP server.

What is the make and model of the router?
What is the make and model of the switch?
How are they configured?

Thanks The Old Man!

You were the first to hit on the problem Before I could respond back to these suggestions, I figured out that the segments were different and this is why no one could see the router. Have updated all machines to be on the same segment, and now they work.

Thanks for the help!
