DSA Setup?

I just had DSA crash on me which corrupted the file that remembers all the DSA settings. I'm trying to remake it but am having problems with the settings. I use a modem to connect to a remote switch and have a external modem, but no matter what settings I set it to I cannot get a login. I know it worked before. Any suggestions?

Call the number you had set in the system properties for the site you are trying to login to. See if you get a modem anwsering the line. OK now you know the modem you are calling has the ability to answer. Now check the modem on you pc to see if it is working. Go to Programs\Accessories\Communication\HyperTerminal. Run Hyperterminaland set up a connection direct to the com port of you modem, IE COM1:. Type in the command at&v and press enter. Did you see information displayed on the screen show modem settings? If so you modem is probably OK. In DSA go to the system properties for the site you are trying to connect to. Make sure the connections box on the bottom of the windows has the correct settings a the top selection, you may have to delete the top one to correct you settings. If all else fails slap you computer monitor (it always made me feel better!). Hope this helps.

I have no doubt that the definity will pickup and that my modem is working, just can't remember the port settings, i.e. speed 8n1, flow control, device. That sort of stuff.

Here are the settings that I use.
Modem Device: Analog Modem

Port Settings
Baud: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: Hardware


You could also do a test by dialing within Hyperterminal to see if you get a login prompt.

When you get it up and running again copy and rename the file persist.dat in directory:

C:\programfiles\lucent\dsa\user\persist.dat

This contains all the switches and login details, make a copy of it and rename persist_copy.dat etc. then if the persist.dat file becomes corrupt which it has no me twice you do not have to type all the switches back in again.

Making a copy of the persist.dat has saved me on more than one occasion when having DSA workstation problems. I copy the file at the beginning of each month...just as a safety net.
