Hi,

When I try to add a person to one of our distribution lists, I get the following error:

"An internal processing error has occurred: invalid attribute syntax. Try restarting the Administrator program or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer, or both.

Microsoft Exchange Directory

ID no: DS_E_INVALID_ATTRIBUTE_SYNTAX"

Can someone help me out here?

Kind regards,
Werner

Have you had any luck getting this resolved? I have the same problem. To this point I feel it's Database corruption. If you try running a defrag on the private information store does it run or do you get an error (I got an error).

I've run a few tests and tonight I'm going to to use the eseutil to repair (/p option) and then check the integrity (/g option) and then run a defrag and see if it fixes the problem.

Look forward to hearing from you

Mike

In case you have not figured out how to fix the problem it's actually very simple. When you view the properties of the Distribution list you will see a drop down box labeled "Expansion Server" - this value is probably invalid. Either blank or an old server would be invalid. Change it so that it shows a valid server or better yet "Any Server in Site".

Here's a MS knowledge base article that fixed the problem for me.

Good Luck!
Mike
