Hi,

I need help on how to determine what traffic goes over a DS1 card.

Basically i have several DS1 cards which connect to various different circuits. How would i be able to tell which DS1 card uses what or if it is being used at all ?

thanks

can either status each trunk group or can 'monitor trunk group'.

You should also keep note in your ars tables where alot of your traffic comes in and out of.

Your DS1 provider account team might be able to help you. Some (very few) document their customers circuits.

already tried that! and like you say very few (none infact)
keep that info!

thanks guys! just to check, once i monitor the trunk and see what card it goes back to, is the only was to find out who that ds1 card belongs to is by tracing it back to the circuit ? so if those cables are under the floor im screwed?

If it's not documented in the switch then tracing back the cables is your only bet. If the DS1 is not used at night you could disconnect it for a short time and see the error lights come up on your channel banks.

gonna sound really stupid now! but channel banks?

do you mean on the providers circuit box?

I would suggest running a "list ars analysis" command.
This will identify the route patterns for all outbound calls based on digits dialed and from there you can look up the particulaar route patterns involved. The route patterns will specify which trunk groups are chosen and in which order they are chosen.
You can identify which boards are attached to what T-1's by using the "disp tru x" command.
Hope this helps-

A couple of things to do:

'list trunk group' - finds all of the administered groups.
'display trunk-group [x]' - lists all of the ports assigned.
'status trunk-group [x]' - tells you which ports are active.
'display ds1 [xxyzz]' - displays DS-1 paramaters.

Yes I think thats what edeelliott07 meant David. I have had the same issue in the past and ultimately had to manually trace cables to define which DS1 used a particular circuit. Are you sure that noe of your trunk groups or DS1's are named in a similar way to the suscribers circuits?. Sometimes there's a card or some paperwork with the suscribers box that details the name of each circuit and that may relate to the naming conventions on the switch, try a "list con DS1" and see if the names of the DS1's look similar to what your suscriber calls them. Alternativeley look in the trunk group form and see if there is any references in there to the circuit name??

thanks for all your help guys, as i've just joined the company and they have no records of anything it looks like i'm going to have to trace the cables from the back of the DS1 cards to the circuits and then investigate who they belong to

many thanks to all

DavidLamont, after you trace all your circuits down make a excel speed sheet or word document and place all your circuits to what packs they go to. It will help you in the future when you need to trouble shoot something. Here is how mine are done.

Code:
Circuit # Trunk # System # Board #

60IPZD500071 24-46 7002 04D20
60IPZD500072 47-70 7003 02D15
60IPZD500073 71-94 7004 02D04
60IPZD500074 95-118 7005 02D05
