When doing a 'status trunk' on our G3si V9 Definity PBX ISDN PRI trunk, I can see three ports getting a 'out-of-service-FE' error. Is this a circuit pack issue or is it with the carrier? All the other ports are working fine. Does the TN464F circuit pack need to be replaced? If so, are circuit packs hot-swappable?

According to the following:

- Out-of-Service/Far-End (OOS/FE)

A B-Channel is initialized to this state when administered. The switch sends messages to the far-end to negotiate the B-channel into service. If the far-end does not respond to the messages within a certain time period, then the service state remains out-of-service and maintenance will periodically resend the messages. The trunk is unusable for incoming and outgoing calls.

I would first list the Sig groups and find out which Sig group is assosiated with the Pri then st that sig group. If that sig group is in service i would thest the Board see what errors you get????

I would say that the problem is on the far end, like the error states. Contact the far end and ask what type of errors they are getting.

If it is a fractional PRI, then make sure the correct channels are assigned.

Try busy and releasing the ports which are giving the problems. I.e busy port 01a0101.....release port 01a0101. This way you are only playing with the ports causing the problem and not the whole trunk.

It's been my experience that OOS/FE is almost always some sort of config problem. They are sending 4ess and you are set for 5ess or something of that sort. Or they may have put the circuit in test mode, if its been down for awhile. Definately call the carrier and tell them there is a problem and have them hunt it down on thier side.

If u have been doing some readministration of the CSU/DSU u must readmint all the channels, not just the ones that u are changing.

P.S. For the best response to a question, read FAQ222-2244. Also give the type & version of your voice mail & pbx & preview your post to make sure it is complete & understandable. Please answer all questions so that I may have the info to assist you. Leaving a post on how you fixed the problem will also be appreciated.

Thanks everyone for your input. I ended up switching with another circuit pack. Both look good still. So, I'm assuming it was on the far end (CO) that was causing the error. Reseating the cicuit pack could have fixed the problem too. However, I wanted to make sure it wasn't bad by making the switch first. I would have busyout/release the card but our login doesn't have that feature (without paying for it).
